Jerry is a Standard Class 4MT engine who once visited Copley Hill.
Bio
Jerry was built sometime between 1951 and 1952 at Swindon Works. It seems that he was transferred to the Eastern Region, as in the autumn of 1952, he visited Copley Hill in Leeds. By this time, he was aware of the 1955 Modernisation Plan, and one day, he was talking to Stephen about it. He also told Stephen that British Railways no longer repaired steam engines, and just scrapped them instead. He then left the yard, hoping that he would meet Stephen again.
In 1959, Stephen met Jerry at Leeds Central depot. For most of the meeting, the two engines sat in silence, but Jerry told Stephen that he was simply waiting for a crew to take him home, whilst the rest of the steam engines were awaiting scrapping. Just before Stephen leaves, Jerry tells him that a few nights before, after a shunter was cut up, he saw an engine, old fashioned and glowing, which moved towards the remains of the engine and disappeared. Stephen simply says that he has met the engine as well, and leaves. Jerry asks him if it was a ghost that he saw, but there is no reply. Jerry simply shrugs it off.
In 1964, Jerry was at Stratford Works, where Stephen met him. Jerry reassured Stephen that the both of them wouldn't be scrapped, but reminded Stephen that eternal life had it's issues, as he will have to say goodbye to all of the people that have helped him as time goes by.
Persona
Jerry appears to be a friendly, but nervous and slightly cocky engine.
Basis
Jerry is based on a BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0. His road number is unknown, but he must be one of the six surviving Standard Class 4s, because in The Last Run, he mentioned to Stephen that the B12 was being stored servicable and that Jerry himself would soon be going away for repairs.
Livery
In 1952, Jerry was painted in BR Brunswick green, but by 1959, he had been repainted in BR mixed traffic black.

- Jerry is named after Simon Martin's father.
- Jerry's original face later became the face of Nigel.
